Overview

The Scott Sub Cross eRIDE 30 is a versatile all-terrain e-bike that balances comfort, practicality, and performance for everyday use and light off-road adventures. With a powerful 600W motor and 40Nm of torque, it offers smooth support for hills and varied terrain, while its efficient battery provides a useful range for most commutes or outings. The removable battery adds convenience for charging and storage, and the hydraulic disc brakes deliver confident stopping power. However, the charging time is notably slow, and the relatively low battery capacity may limit longer rides, so planning around these factors is advisable for frequent or extended use.

Best For

This all-terrain e-bike should suit riders who want a versatile machine for mixed surfaces and light off-road use, with a balance of comfort and practicality. Its above-average power-to-weight ratio and responsive torque sensor make it feel agile and efficient, especially for those who value natural assistance and predictable performance. The removable battery and confident braking also appeal to riders who need flexibility and reliability for everyday use or occasional trail riding. Motor Name

Bosch Active Line (BDU 310)

This all-terrain e-bike offers a strong motor output that should feel lively and responsive for its category, with a power-to-weight balance that helps it react well to rider input. Next to similar models, its motor support is competitive but may lag slightly in torque, which could affect climbing or low-speed control compared to some alternatives. The motor should provide decent hill assistance and maintain a smooth, proportional feel thanks to the torque sensor, though it may not deliver the strongest punch for steep inclines or rapid acceleration. Riders looking for a balanced, efficient motor that feels natural and responsive on mixed surfaces should find this setup suitable, though those prioritizing maximum climbing power or long-distance range may need to consider other options.

This explanation is based on the bike’s motor power, torque, battery capacity, claimed range, charging time, sensor type and how those figures compare with similar e-bikes in our database.

eBike FAQs

Is this bike suitable for long rides on mixed terrain?

The Scott Sub Cross eRIDE 30 is a good choice for long rides on mixed terrain, offering a balance of comfort and performance. Its 600W motor and 40Nm of torque provide smooth support for hills and varied surfaces, while the efficient battery should handle most commutes or outings. However, the relatively low battery capacity and slower charging time may require planning for longer rides or frequent use.

How does the motor perform when climbing hills?

The motor provides strong support for moderate hills, but may struggle on very steep inclines due to its lower torque compared to similar e-bikes. With 600 watts of power and a torque of 40 Nm, it should handle most everyday hills with ease, though riders may need to adjust their pace or use lower assistance levels on steeper sections. The torque sensor helps deliver smooth power, but the lower torque means it's not the best choice for consistently steep terrain.

Does the battery provide enough range for daily commuting?

The battery provides a range of 60 miles, which should be sufficient for most daily commutes, especially on mixed terrain. However, the battery capacity is below average for similar e-bikes, so you may need to plan for more frequent charging if you ride longer distances. The removable battery adds convenience for charging and storage, making it practical for everyday use.

How practical is this bike for everyday use and storage?

This bike is reasonably practical for everyday use, especially for mixed-terrain commuting, thanks to its all-terrain design and 60-mile range. The removable battery adds flexibility for charging and storage, which is a big plus. However, the bike's weight of 25.8 kg may make it harder to lift, and since it doesn't fold, storage will depend on available space. Overall, it's a solid choice for daily use on varied surfaces but may require some consideration for storage and handling.

Is this bike good value for the price compared to similar e-bikes?

This bike offers strong value for the price compared to similar e-bikes, especially considering its efficient battery use and removable battery design, which adds convenience for charging and storage. While the battery capacity is on the lower side, the bike's range efficiency helps compensate, making it suitable for most daily commutes and mixed-terrain use. The motor power is above average, providing good hill support, and the price is competitive with other all-terrain e-bikes in this category.

How easy is it to charge the battery, and how long does it take?

The battery is removable, which makes charging convenient, especially if you need to charge it away from home. However, it takes around 6 hours to fully charge, which is longer than average for similar e-bikes. This means you may need to plan your charging schedule carefully, particularly if you ride frequently or cover longer distances.

Who is this bike best suited for, and who might find it less ideal?

This bike is best suited for casual riders who enjoy mixed-terrain rides, such as light trails or urban commutes with some off-road elements. Its motor power and torque provide adequate support for moderate hills, and the removable battery adds convenience for charging and storage. However, it may be less ideal for riders who need long-range capabilities or frequent steep climbs, as the battery capacity and torque are below average for similar e-bikes.

What are the main compromises or trade-offs of this bike?

This bike offers strong value for money and good braking confidence, but there are a few trade-offs to consider. The charging time is above average, taking around 6 hours to fully charge the battery, which may be inconvenient for users who need quick recharging. Additionally, the battery capacity is below average for similar e-bikes, which could limit range on longer rides. However, the removable battery adds flexibility for charging and storage, helping to offset some of these limitations.
